Gentlemen.

I have gone and f**ked my build buy removing the EFI system for a repair and not noting where the plumbing goes!

I have checked out a haynes manual and the Land rover manual but none explain where the hoses go!

Can anyone help?


I have prepared an image of what i am stuck with.

Basically its the extra small bore on the radiator (the other goes to the expansion tank)

The two preheat on the underside of the plenum

The fuel return (both sides)

and the distributor.

The areas of concern for me are marked with red ovals on this image.

Distributor vac hose is a small rubber hose, goes to the small nipple on the top of the plenum, just behind the throttle assembly.

The two small coolant houses from the plenum, the one on the left (when facing the engine) is the feed, this comes from the inlet manifold and is quite a short hose. The other hose goes on to the spigot on the radiator, next to the pipe that is connected to the header.

The fuel pipes should be straight forward as they are likely to want to sit where they were before.

Note that in between the vacuum advance unit and the feed on top of the plenum is a little vacuum damper I think. It's a small cylinder, black with a brown end, on mine at least. I think this is to smooth or regulate the vac advance curve.

The little purple fella on your rad goes to ya little blue chappy on your plenum.

Vacuum on your dizzy to the little nipply chap ontop of your plenum.

The small pipe off your fuel regulator goes on underneath your stepper motor, to a similar nipply chap as your dizzy vacuum advance. It's hard to see so just have a grope around.

Fuel supply should be on a union type fixing of 14mm spannarage size, this bolts onto the fuel rail at the back left as you look at the engine.

The fuel return is right next to that and is just a 8mm metal pipe clipped to a clip next to the fuel supply.

Darn thee little pesky green one!! As said that goes to a to the front right of your inlet manifold near your coolant temp sensor

The only one i cant locate is the fuel return.

I wasnt clear (i apologise) that i have converted to a V8 from 19j TD.

Where does or where should the fuel return go?

Alex, I don't think that nylon pipe is the return, you'll find the fuel piles more likely to be the two conduit covered pipes running close together near the gearbox dipstick. The front one is likely to be the return.

Now, richb, onto your problem. I'm afraid I don't know if a 19j has a return to the tank, a Tdi certainly does.

What sort of tank unit have you fitted, or have you fitted an inline high pressure pump?

The typical v8 tank unit has an in tank pump fitted inside a swirl lot, and the return feeds back into the swirl pot, for minimising fuel starvation.

The fuel flow from the pump passes through a simple inline filter near the tank and travels all the way to the fuel pressure regulator.

Fuel flows through the fuel rail and then out the end, into return hose which runs back to tank unit as stated.

Disco v8 fuel pipes are steel with rubber hose lengths at the ends. Mine rotted through so I replaced the lot with 3/8" fuel hose iirc. Hose tail fittings and zero clips take care of the threaded connections.

If you don't have a fuel return to the tank then that's why you can find one, but I'm interested to know what your tank setup is.

This is the best shot I've got at the moment.



You can see the two fuel hoses running up the bulkhead just inboard of where the steering shaft exits. They are in between that and the #8 manifold primary.

See them?

Follow them up and you can see where the rear one fits to the fuel rail high pressure end and the front one goes further and pushes direct onto the FPR hose tail.

It's as simple as that mate

I'm not sure about a 19j fuel return but i am running the stock tank with braided rubber fuel hose up to an inline fuel pump.

Correction: I just checked microcat and apparently all diesel tanks have a return pipe so i have solved that question....Well i say i I mean you guys!
