More power and better mpg are mutually exclusive on a diesel, for more power you need more fuel, simples. The engine and/or the turbo's should go bang quicker though
You really don't know much do you? The only way to give a diesel more power and torque without serious engine modifications is to increase fuel. You can't increase fuel for more power and torque and get better fuel consumption. Only someone with no brain would think you can. If you drive it like a nun you may get slightly more fuel economy on a long steady run because of a more linear map but if you use the power you use the fuel. Simples.
Good for you. But i have yet to see an oil lamp were when you turn the wick up for more light it uses less fuel. Physics is a strange thing isn't it.

The extra fuel economy is when you are NOT utilizing the extra power. If you drive the same as normal, then you get better economy.
If you do use the extra power, then you do, of course, use extra fuel.
Sure, fuel economy benefits may well be small, and rarely noticed, but overall I gained around 3 mpg in my old 335d, and 5 mpg in my A3 TDI. I wouldn't expect much more than a couple mpg in a TDV8, but that would be enough I would think. Obviously you would remap a motor for the power gains rather than economy gains, but it is a nice bonus to have.

I think i have already said all that, but there are some who read the bumf and think they are going to have increased BHP/torque AND better fuel economy whilst using the extra power and torque, does not work that way. Most of the ads for chips are VERY misleading.

I found there were very small mpg gains on a long run with a power box on my P38, these I believe came from the fact that it would hold speed on, for example, a motorway incline without the torque converter unlocking or a downshift occurring. Over a long period with every brim to brim logged, there has been no discernible difference in overall fuel consumption which has remained at 24Mpg with or without the power box.
It of course depends where you live and how far you drive in each stint. My P38 certainly uses more fuel around town stop start in 30 mph limits than is does on a bit of a run when you can get to over 50 mph for any length of time.
