Hello All,

I have a 3.5L V8 which has had a very poor LPG system fitted, I have now removed it in prep for a newer / better system (one day). I could do with a manual of some sorts to identify what has been altered to suite the LPG.

Any body got something to do the trick? Or in the local area and fancy a day trip and browse (With free pint).

Suggest that you take some pictures and post them. This may help.

Without wishing to be ungratious, if you are not confident in the parts used in an LPG conversion, suggest you leave well alone.

Why not just leave it switched off - it will not effect the engine at all.

What you may find is that the carbs have been tuned to suit LPG, so may not work as well as they could on the carbs - simple re-tune will sort it.

I'll check out the timing as the system is already out and littering the garden.

There are 3 bits that have me guessing at the min:

There are holes drilled into the inlet manifold both look un-original. 2 of the holes are for LPG and two seem to be for the rocker head, maybe some sort of breather?

There is a kind of solenoid in the centre of the engine on a mount, looks original but all the connections have been cut.

Lastly there are to pipe connectors at the top of the carb which have been filled with solder or something.

Just trying to find out why these bits are this way, and return to normal.

I'll post some pics when I get a chance to take some.

Looking forward to the pics. Sounds like alot of it has been removed.

The solenoid may well be the one that switches off the petrol when the gas is switched on. As things are a bit confusing - make sure that there are no leaks in that area before much else.

E: this is a second inlet has a rubber hose connected to it which leads into the rocker head. Again once each side.

A lateral thought - if you have the makers details for the LPG system, do they have a website ? If they do it might explain what you have to do to put the system in, even if not specific to a Rover V8 , that might help orientate you as you look at the remains ?

I have tried to find out who makes it but there is no marking on it anywhere, looks like a DIY kit buy the way it was put in.

In my view, A , C and E are nothing to do with LPG, just bodges.

I have never seen the pipes at A before and can't think what function they would have performed since the are presumably tapped into the top of the dashpots (which is just filled with oil). If the carbs are working leave alone.

C is a redundant water inlet that the PO has capped off. If removed, coolant will **** out.

E, from your description is just a breather. The hose should have a flame trap fitted in line.

B in my view was probably the petrol line shut off solanoid. This blocks the petrol flow when running on gas but as it is not connected, could be removed. It was a crap place to mount it anyway.

Looking at your blogspot pictures, your tank is a 4 hole version (which is good) and the vapouriser, although covered in mud looks like a Stefanelli 2 stage. You could clean it to confirm.

Thanks Ragtag thats cleared a lot of that up, i'll leave most of it alone until i can un-do the bodges.

With B however i have already removed a petrol and LPG solinoid so not sure why there would be two? The two i removed also match. But i'm guessing it's not orginal so that can be removed too.
