i have a 1992 land rover discovery with a 3.5l V8 EFI which will not start the engine is to be planted in my defender now the engine ran out of fuel and now when i fill it it does not want to start i will hear is start to fire up after a couple turns of the starter motor then just gives up. my dad says that i have blown the engine but i think other whys can anyone help??

Chances are it's flooded. If it's trying to start it's quite possible.

Take the plugs out and blowtorch them, spin it over whilst they're out to see if fuel sprays out the plug holes. Then you know you've got fuel delivery.

Check you have a spark before replacing the plugs, and then check the static timing, and/or rotate to dizzy whilst cranking over to see of you can find a sweet spot that will fire it up, then check timing with strobe light.

It's not unusual for 3.5s to mystery non start, usually due to flooding which happens very quickly.
