Hi all I have a RRC that I can't get going I have spark and fuel to the injectors but it won't inject and I can't get my head around why I'm told that the system on these are really simple can anyone help me cheers gromit
 
Have you got wet plugs? Smell of fuel?

How good is the spark, she needs a good one to run and it's not unusual for it to be weak and fool you, a change of coil often solves.
 
I'm not to up on 3.5 heifers but the 3.9 gets a signal from the coil negative to the ecu. Without it the injectors don't squirt. @pete1987RRC does same apply to flapper?
 
IIRC the flapper MAF sends a signal (when the flap is moved by air being drawn into the engine during cranking) to turn on the fuel pump

Yep you need the signal and it should prime the fuel pump when you turn the key to position before crank?

Problem with these questions is the basics, check they are well covered cause of you don't it gets confusing.
99 % will be a bad spark.
 
If I squirt petrol directly into the air intake she will fire on the surely that's means spark is good enough or am I wrong in thinking this ? Cheers

Logical. So check pump is priming. Check pump is running under cranking. Check wire from coil neg to ecu
 
Have someone at the back of the motor, he is listening for a pump running which is in the fuel tank.
Take air filter off and with ignition on carefully open the flap by pressing g it in on the air flow meter.
Your buddy should hear the pump run, if it don't check there is 12v on the wires going to the pump, they are not the ones going into the tank on the passenger side rear as that is the fuel volume sender.

If no power it's quite possible that the relay is faulty under the drivers seat.

If the pump runs you then need to check the pressure at the engine, there is a controll valve at the back or the engine, follow the incoming fuel line and you will find it.
 
Pump runs fine when cranking new pump good pressure at the rail also neg wire from coil back to ecu is fine where do I go now might put her on carbs
 
Take an injector our and see it it's squirting, enclose it in a jar though as that spray is dangerous to you.

Can you detect switching voltage on the injectors

I am assuming this is a flapper, most 3.5 are but there were some Hotwire units on later ones, can you confirm the fuel injection system type.
 
Check your ignition amp as well. I had the same problem and after much faffing we swapped the ignition amp and she fired straight away.

I have since upgraded to hotwire which is so much better. Good luck.
 
I have 4 different ecu' snot one of them make a blind bit of difference but then they may be shot an all who knows I know one came of a running truck but that was about a year ago
 
There is a ecu diagnostic procedure which is quite comprehensive, you need to follow that to chase the fault.
What year it is, Pre 89 had quite flimsy cable on the Eli system, check for cracks etc.
 
I had same problem scratched my little bold head for days and it was the injector relay... Replaced it with a ebay special and it fired up straight away... Make sure you get the exact same relay for your vehicle though, some have 2 neutrals coming out on the large pins and some have a live and a neutral....
