Can I fit 205 55 16 Tyres to my Freelander 1 2.0 Di 1998, which at the moment has 215 65 16 Tyres. If not can someone tel my why. The reason I want to is simply economics, somebody has given me the 205 55 16's. Oh and hello to the community on here, I am a newby to the landyzoneb always having to read the good stuff on here. Thanks.

your making the wheel smaller and could put the speedo out for one

i was always told if you went from 215 - 205 you would need to increase the wall from 65 to 70 to keep the wheel the same diameter

thanks for that information, so in other words are you saying that they will fit but it will throw my speedo out. i'm sure there is a mathematical answer to that, but mainly i just need to know if there is a major reason why i cannot fit them.

Obviously you will reduce your ground clearance by a bit as 215/65/16 are 27" in diameter whereas the size you want to fit are only 24.5" in diameter, but more importantly you will be down grading the load index of the tyres which is an insurance notifiable change.
Would you not be better selling the tyres you have been given and put the money towards the correct size tyres?

Thank you all for the advice, so i shall be selling the tyres by the sound of it. and saving to make up for the difference. Thanks again.

The size 205 55 R16 are very popular car fitment, used on VW Golf MK4, Audi saloons and Mondeos. You should be able to sell them on quite easily.
