Dear Landy Zone members
I'm hoping someone out there can help me. I have a problem with my Discovery LR4 which my local dealer is unable to identify or fix. The problem started a month ago with the engine cutting out in the first 5 minutes of my journey. When this happens the screen changes from the normal selection menu to the 4x4i Terrain Response menu with a warning that Special programs off. see photos attached. Does anyone know what is going on so i can advise my service centre?
Thanks in advance

unable to view pictures for some reason

has the landy had a diagnostic reader on it

Hi Stuart, yes the dealers service centre has connected the system to their diagnostic machine but no faults were recorded. In addition to my description to the fault i posted earlier i have noticed that the engine stutters and fails just prior to the cut off. This is now left me wondering whether this might have something to do with the fuel system and the 4x4i warning is only a secondary unrelated reaction to an engine stall. most interestingly the fault only occurs once a day on the first start after being left over night. The fault is now so predictable i have twice videoed the stall which happens within 3 minutes of starting and driving off. The catalyst which begins the failure is when i reduce revs and begin to break (I should mention that the Disco is an Automatic transmission not a manual) where the engine stutters and dies. However after coming to a halt and then placing the LR into park before restarting the problem doesn't reoccur for the rest of the day. If anyone has encounter a similar problem please get in touch.

I know its probably unlikely but how old is your battery? I know that RRs really don't like anything other than a good battery and can come up with all sorts of weird behaviour if the battery voltage is slightly low. I'm pretty sure that I've seen on another forum that this has caused a warning saying special programmes unavailable athough not sure how that would cause it to cut out?

I agree Mate my L322 was throwing all sorts of double sixes until I charged the battery. Problem solved.

i think with many landies now filled with so many electronics the batteries are sometimes forgotten

i ended up replacing mine with a larger one, varta, best thing i ever did

also noticing at the same time a fraid earth wire

the radio and clock kept resetting itself , also the alarm would go off for no reason
