I noticed at the rear of the chassis there are two small Gas strutts that go up to mounts right next to the rear body mounts, are they some sort of harmonic damper?

That's a new one, I've seen the weights they put on the D4 at the rear cross member..

My D3 has the swinging weights.

Thars the one. So they then swapped to cylinders?
Another use of materials to complicate things
