Hey all,

I just received a letter from TFL (Transport for London) regarding the new Low Emission Zone for 3rd of January 2012 saying that my vehicle may be affected by this.

Does anyone know how much it is to fit a "filter to the exhaust" on a 2001 TD5 engine?

About 2k. Not economical in the least.

If you have an older TD5 I've heard about an engine management tweak that can exempt you, but I don't have any other details maybe someone on here can help.

Of course, if you have a CSW you should be exempt anyway. My 300TDi CSW is now no longer affected after I had the body type altered from light utility 4x4 to estate. I still got the letter though.

Yup, the distilled version is that the 7th letter of the VIN should be a "B" if it's a 90 or an "M" if it's a 110. Anything else and you're buggered.

Selling, though truly nuts, is an option I guess. Just glad I bought a CSW when all around me recommended a panel sided.

You know what, I agree. I wanted a Utility, but couldn't find one. Done me a favour in the long run - only a matter of time before the TDCi gets banned too!!
 
I got same letter and pamphlet today:mad:, don't suppose it an April fools day joke? it is dated 1st April.

Page 14 is my favourite, after the bit about possibly getting an approved filter, fitted and certified by an approved fitter. (££££) it states.

"There are options you might want to consider such as upgrading your vehicle, reorganising your fleet, converting to gas or paying the daily charge". (£100 per day).

I am in process now of trying to get my 300tdi CSW reclassed as an estate, hopefully this will be successful but I can't helping thinking it only gonna be a temporary measure before they tighten the emissions even more in the future.

Another nugget from the letter

"Recognising that this is going to be difficult the Mayor has negotiated hefty discounts on new vans and minibuses from Citroen, Ford, Mercedes Benz, Peugeot and Volkswagen. Please visit tfl.gov/lezlondon and click on "Replace a vehicle" link for details"..........

I am looking at the new 2.4 engine...
It will be loads of money to "upgrade" but it sounds worth it...
I am keeping back the mods then I think until I get the new car...

Thanks, I did take your advice from previous posts, I have sent amended V5, letter, etc to DVLA and am now sitting and waiting for their response, hopefully it will be a positive.

I have a 1998 Defender 90 CSW, and have received the LEZ notification letter. I have queried this today with TFL, and they have advised that the vehicle is currenly being reviewed by them following thousands of queries. However, they have stated to me that it is the vehicle not the DVLA class that is being reviewed, therefore there is currently no need to attempt to change the class to estate with the DVLA. TFL have said that a formal decision is expected within the next two weeks. Hope this helps, i will post their decision when received.
 
Well, all I can say is that I was told that they were 'looking into it'. I went ahead and changed the body type to Estate (as it should be for a CSW) and I'm now compliant come 2012 on their database.

I can guess in which direction they will swing though, the historical bias being toward increased legislation rather than the opposite...

Hi, help needed, had a letter back from dvla who tell me I need Land Rover to confirm the body type (110 csw, checks out ok on a vin identifier) via letter..........any ideas
