I've not been on here for a while as I got rid of my P38. I now have a 2010 freelander so no doubt I will be asking for help again and offering help where I can.

Only had it 3 days and need help already!!! it's had new discs and pads all round and they seem to be working fine, however the handbrake needs to pulled on hard for it to fully work which is fine for me but my wife has trouble releasing and applying it.

Is there a manual adjustment attached to the handbrake to adjust or is this a wheels off job. I would go and look for myself but my wife has taken the car to work.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

The handbrake has shoes that work on the inside of the rear discs, you take the wheels off and pull the plastic plug out and have peer inside, check that the linkage isn't siezed as it is fairly common.
If its alright get some spray grease on it while someone works the linkage. Next you need to take the little plastic tray that sits flat behind the centre console out (it should prise out with a small screwdriver), the cable adjustmeant nut lives in there, back it right off.
Next you wanna go back to the discs and turn the disc till you can see the little adjuster inside, tighten it all the way up and give the disc a whack with a copper hammer and tighten the adjuster up again. From there back it off 8 clicks and check the disc spins freely, ideally it should only just be catching. Repeat on the other side and remember to put the little plugs in.
The wheels can be refitted and wheel nuts tightened up.
Adjust the cable next, I find turning the nut till its hand tight is normally somewhere near 3 clicks of the handbrake but do it to preference. Put the cover on and check it works!
