Hello all.
I thought a wheel bearing was on it's way out as I have a loud humming noise coming from the rear of my FL but the local garage said he is pretty sure it's the rear diff and advised getting a second hand one.
I have two questions:
1. Where would you advise I get one, and any tips you can offer?
2. I bought this from a car sales garage in November last year - they only gave 3 months guarantee so there's nothing legally I can do on this?
Thanks for a great forum!

Don't go down the second hand unknown route. It'll happen again.
Bell are the ones to use. While you're there spending cash get your haldex unit serviced.
As for the warranty I would say you're out of luck.

Great stuff, thanks. Next question - do it now or wait for the bang?
(I have no knowledge of the Haldex unit so will do some Googling.....thank you for this)

Waiting will only mean more components end up damaged. Pay now or pay more later, is my feeling.

Doh!!
Thank you for this. I see that I should be grateful that I'm not replacing the haldex then.....ouch!!

Well, the results are in:
Bell Engineering - £606 for recon diff and delivery inc a Haldex servicing kit (so I could ask my local garage to do this - they are quoting labour tomorrow)
Local Land Rover specialist - £780 for recon diff and servicing kit (they added that 'EP90' would need to be added to Haldex?), inc labour of 4 hours - £1,043

Thoughts?

Why don't you take it to Bell Engineering for them to do the work?

They look to only be an hour and 1/2 away.

That would be a great call under normal circumstances but I am trying very hard to keep from travelling anywhere due to Covid.

My dilemma is whether to trust my local non-Land Rover garage. They seem competent but...you know....they ain't a Land Rover garage.

I would take it to bell to be fitted
Then any problems can't be blamed on another garage.
When you're paying a lot of cash then get it done by those who know.
