We had snow last night and this morning my Series wont start, she has a 200tdi but heater plugs are not connected, is there a way of getting her to run?

I am wanting to get the necesary parts to connect the heater plugs and get them working but dont know what I need to get.

Any help muchly appreciated

If its spins over fast enough it should start fine albeit lumpy even without the glow plugs.
On my series tdi I just used the std tractor ign switch with a warning light to activate the glow plugs.
Over the years Ive only ever had one 200 that was sulky starting and that was because the diesel was starting to wax, was well under zero degc
 
To get it running put a direct 12v to the glow plug wire for approx 20 secs then waz it over pal only a temp fix but should get you going
 
I thought it might be that Lynall, think it was only -1c though,
Devs90 could I use a boost pack? Would it be ok to run 12v from the Battery to a push n hold button then onto heater plugs, would I not have to connect a negwtive anywhere

you would connect negative to anywhere suitable on engine or the neg terminal on battery, glow plugs shouldnt be needed if battery and engine are good , you would need to wire plugs up through a relay, quite simple to do
 
The cheapo glow plug on ebay work a treat 12 quid for 4, doddle to change as well.
 
Glow plugs are all there with a yellow cable connecting each one together, I will get the necesary parts when I find out what relay I need and I heard there might be some sort of timer on the ignition?

The snow thawed today so when I got chance went out to give her a try and just as usual she fired up before the key was fully turned.

I must check tomorrow morning after work if there is antifreeze, also I will lift the seat to see what size battery it has, what is the best battery for a 200tdi does anyone have an idea? Oh and what antifreeze should I use in a 200?
 
you can do it several ways either a separate switch and a 4 pin relay or you can use a timer relay triggered from ignition live ,google prc6913
 
A jump pack would temporary do it yes earth to engine then connect up

Antifreeze use red 5year stuff 50:50 mix

As for a switch you would need a relay as said and tbh might as well go the whole hog then and make it a timed relay so you can't leave them on and burn em out
 
i use a push button switch, so you need to hold it down. means i can use as much or as little as i see fit :)
 
James Martin thanks for that link, before I order one I will sort my battery and antifreeze, she is starting no bother again.

During the snow and freezing temperature she was turning over very slow hence me thinking the battery was dead.

With 50/50 antifreeze do I have to drain the whole system beforehand? I was hoping to just add neat stuff, which is best?

cold weather does show up duff batteries
 
For a short term measure you can take the battery out at night and keep it nice and warm indoors until you need to start the engine,
this will give an old battery the best chance of doing it's job.
