Hi, just replaced the head gasket in the disco 200tdi engine in my def. Put it all back together today, started her up and its kicking out loads of white/grey acrid smoke! was making my eyes water!! smells of fuel and has make the entire garage and me stink of exhaust after only running inside for about a minuite! so dont think its coolant. wasnt doing it before i did the head gasket tho!! there used to be a slight smell of unburnt diesel on startup but tht soon stopped! :( i did clean the ends of the injectors up a bit tho as they hada fair amount of soot on the ends. is it possible its now over fuelling slightly? or could someone have tweaked the fuelin to try and compensate for the lost power due to hgf?? any ideas welcome. cheers! Pete

it does only have about a foot of exhaust on atm as havnt connected the rest of it up. will this make a difference? oh and thers no fuel return off the injector closest the bulkhead as the banjo bolt snapped so the hole is currently blocked atm with a small bolt. or after a bit of reading could i just need to adjust the tappet clearances?

if you have blocked leak off and havent adjusted tappets it wont run very well leak off is critical to correct operation of injector, you should be really careful cleaning injector nozzles best not to .land rover use rule of nine to set tappets 10 thou, from front turn engine until one rocker is fully down then adjust its number from nine ie 4 do 5 ,6 do 3 ,7 do 2 ,2 do 7 etc

yer i did do them but was in bit of a rush so might be slightly out. could be the leak off thats screwing it up then. is it ok to run it unblocked with just a hole there?
