I changed the thermostat yesterday on my 94 200tdi and the rubber seal seems too big. I cant see any water leaking onto the paper gasket but is this ok?

That looks pretty terrible. I would take it back and get one that fits. Who is it made by? Is it a genuine one?

The thermostat looks right but the rubber seal is totally wrong

I didnt get it from these but thats what mine looks like with the seal on

Can I get away without the rubber seal as the one I took off didnt have one or if it did it was seriously perished?

Em that's not a seal, its to protect the edges of the thermostat. I'm pretty sure you're supposed to take it off

It wasnt on in the box. But ill take it off. What a dickhead I am lol

Lol. The thermostat just sits in nicely without the rubber protection strip on
