Hello everyone, i know a Land Rover 90 was not built for speed by all means, but what is the sort of top speed that i would expect from a standard 200tdi disco transplant with lt77 box?

Hmmmmm intresting, i believe its a 1.4 std t/box, it has the same t/box when it had its 11j engine, so with it having a 100,000 on the engine, does 75mph tops sound bad? I think the engine sounds sweet as a nut though

are you sure its not 1.6 fitted ,22d 1.4, 20d 1.6 begining os serial number on back of t/box

so if i got underneath it now to look for the serial number where abouts is the best place to look for it? I can only see a number near the leyland badge.

Yes, finally found it, such an awkward place, with the exhuast in the way, it starts with 22, so it is a 1.4 t/box

It has BFG mt's 265/75, and i do know the engine does leak a bit of oil around the bottom of the breather near the top of the cylinder head, but i thought with the 200tdi they were known to leak oil from the front of the engine, could this be a factor?

Yeah im am talking about a nice flat road such as the A1, i just put my foot right down and its sounds normal to me, (alot of revs) then gets to 75mph and has nothing more to give, it has no problems building speed up to 60 with the foot right down, then wait maybe 30 seconds and it picks speed up again to 75. Could this be feul stravation or my oil leak query?

If it was fuel starvation I'd expect it to start to run roughly as the revs got higher.....missing, jerky.........its usually quite obvious

not your oil if out of timing cover, but worth putting clear plastic pipe between front banjo and filter to check clean fuel been delivered

No, its not like that, just will not give anymore, it dont use water at all just a little oil as it burns some and leaks abit (but dont most of them) the turbo sounds ok. Im not an engineer but know quite a bit on engines, i hope its just not worn.

Yeah good point, i do have a clear fuel line already, but i have not looked really if there is clean fuel though, and the filter is certainly not new  but there is only a puff of smokes when starts, other wise there is'nt any once running.

they are very good engines ,and ive stripped lots of old ones with very little wear ,they do vary in performance as do speedos etc might be worth trying tweaking pump it is laid out in a thread very clearly on here somewhere

Thanks for your time by the way james, you have brilliant knowledge, the speedo seems fine by the way, so from a 200tdi with 100,00 miles you would expect it to be pretty ok and not really that worn, maybe it could do with another service and a fuel pump twaek, i get about 31mpg at the moment, so i dont think it has been tweaked but i dont then want clouds of smoke :D how could you tell if it was worn, would there be lots of oil coming out and it sound like a bag of nails?
