I manage to pick a long stick r380 box for 65 quid so future plans for the daily run bout truck is to pull out the defender 200tdi engine and lt77 and stick in a 300 from a disco with this box.

The 200 runs sweet but I fancy the r380 and at that price I couldn't resist as well as I got hold of the seat box and tunnel ect . My question is the r380 gearbox cross member the same on both disco and defender?

It should be as the engine and box are in the same position in the 300 Disco and Defender. Don't forget that you need new props and transmission tunnel as well.

I think the G/Box x members may be different but dont qoute me

If they are that will be the least of your troubles ans the chassis mounts for the engine are different !

I have a 300 tdi mounted to an lt77 in my lightweight (a small amount of modding was needed on the bellhousings) so i see no reason why it couldnt be done the other way

Nothing wrong with the 200in it however I'm going to put a 300 in it, I'll buy a rotten disco and strip what I need off it. Already have the seat box and tunnel ect so a disco is all I really need to get it going. I know the disco 200tdi engine like the back of my hand because I have one in my other 90 and a spare for it yet the defender engine although its only the top that's really different I'm not keen on even if it's a good runner and reliable I do quite fancy a 300tdi with r380. I think all I need now is props. I have a td5 front wide angle prop which I believe the 300 and td5 front props are the same length also

You want to be careful buying a scrap disco Rob, I bought one for the transfer box. Turns out there was hardly anything wrong with it and after changing the wheel bearings and tweaking the earths on the headlights it passed its mot today :p I'll probably keep it and see my defender

You make a fair point but the garden won't take many more nor will the Mrs lol. Will be nice to see how a road going 90 acts instead of my off roader which is horrendous lol

That's too easy of course haha. You should see my garden at the minute. Garage isn't going as quick as I'd have liked
There you go then buy mine for a family sized pack of m and ms and a curly wurly then build your garage / dungeon at your leisure :p
