My s2 tdi has now eaten its third stop solenoid in approx 7 months
One was a britpart one, last two have been bearmach and have all gone the same way, symptons start as refusal to switch off with the ignition, then will work again for a while then pack up altogether and wont let the motor start, this is over a period of a few weeks
There has been no evidence of swarf or any other debris in the plunger hole when the solenoid has been replaced.
I have it wired straight to the accessory switch, so switch on solenoid on , switch off and solenoid off.
Any ideas?

gonna say itll be a dogey connection too mate, ave ya checked the connection on the F.I.P ? if its minging or not on properly or old and falling apart youll get a bad connection. cant show you a pic as i dont have a200 to hand being on leave an all lol.

but id start chasing cables there mate

Its a new piece of wire direct from the ignition switch and the stop solenoid is the ring type clamped on with an m5 nut, but i will defo check it as its bloody annoying.

haha, you mentioned a switch, do you have it running through the switch if so what else runs through it , if not , are you sure the switch is of good quality or functioning correctly ?

Well everything seems to work okay, but have been down maplins and bought a new toggle switch and will wire it up on a complete new circuit direct to the battery as a test and if the solenoid lasts for more than a couple of months will do it properly, meaning it will stay like that!
Land rover call it an accessory switch but all it really does is switch the lights on and supply power to the heater and wipers.
