Hi all. I have a dear old 'K' reg Disco 1 200tdi. Clutch has been fine up to 2 days ago. Quite suddenly I have real problems getting gears, got really bad today. The clutch is only working when the pedal is hard on the floor, as soon as I move my foot at all it bites. Can't engage gears without a lot of grating noise even when the pedal is hard down. Clutch pedal is a little lower than the brake, master cylinder is still full and I've not done any work on it. Can anyone help please ?

That sounds like a similar problem I have with mine.
Could be the clutch fork..

does fluid slpash in res when pedal pumped ? to check fork carefully remove slave ensuring rod doesnt come off lever and out with slave ,when pushed inwards rod should still poke clear of housing

Thats interesting to know James.. Are you able to push the rod in by hand though..?

On my 300 tdi when fork punched thru,I only had a few mm of pushrod proud of the g/box-after renewing fork and fixing,it was more like an inch of pushrod proud of the g/box

I had a similar thing on my 300 a few weeks back, thought it was clutch fork but decided to change the fluid first, just in case and hey presto it worked perfectly and still does :)
I'm not saying it is that but for the sake of a couple of quids worth of fluid, its worth trying before you go removing the gearbox.

My 93 has 145Kmiles on the original clutch. I had simillar troubles a while back at around 130K miles, it turned out to be the damper cylinder had a small leak then one day just gave up. I replaced the damper unit and flused the system through. Worked a treat and up till now on problems.
