Got an offer of a 200 tdi defender high turbo engine.

I believe its on a pallet and done 140k.

i can view it - obviously on a pallet i cant start it- is there anything other than hand turning it that would be worth doing to assess its worth ?

personally i think its priced a bit on the high side BUT comes with manifold, all ancillierys/rad/airbox etc etc , new clutch kit(not fitted) , new timing belt kit - (not fitted) - new gasket kit - (not fitted.)- all bits i need for my current 19j and itll still be a 19j - once you take those bits off - and the radiator i need - it becomes a reasonable priced 200tdi again.

strikes me as abandoned project rather than spackered engine - hence im keen to look at it as its the ideal engine for my project

Can be started on pallet no problem, just make sure its tied down securely
Can of fuel two fuel pipes and a battery with jump leads, but in all honesty wont actually tell you anything as they start and run even when pretty much worn out!
As head gaskets are a reasonably common failure point, maybe worth pulling head and checking out bores when you get it home, that along with new timing belt will give you a decent start.

Just wrestled it into my garage.

All ancilleries - all pipework- manifolds and downpipe.

All consumables in boxes ready to go on. Timin belt , waterpump , gaskets ,sealsand belts

Well worth changing exhaust manifold to head gasket as will be a doddle on the flat
Check all core plugs to, mate did a tdi conversions fitted the engine and a core plug fell out!
