I have a 200tdi 90 and I am looking at converting it to auto but mine is lifted and the rear shaft is at a good angle and shortening it would probably lead to a lot of trouble (am I right?) I would rather not move the engine forward if possible, I wonder has anyone ever done it?

Not done it, but do keep us updated as it is somehting I would like to do to mine in the future.

You can get cv props rather than uj props, and I believe the cv style can operate at greater angles with no vibe issues.

As @lynall , or you'll need to buy a wide angle HD UJ prop. You might like to call and discuss HD props with Gwyn Lewis. He has these readily available on his website.

Thinks you have to move the engine forward due to the bell housing length.
Otherwise you have a very small prop shaft that eats UJs

for measurements get the gearbox dimensions(where it bolts to the chassis) & work forward. This will show you size of prop and engine position.

Sounds like a head ache, how does the kickdown work on a 200tdi injection pump, need a back plate for 200tdi to the 4hp22 housing for the starter & to mount the bell housing, oil cooler + pipes for the box, gear lever & cables plus mounting, mounts for the gearbox & crossmember, full peddle box so master cylinder n servo may not be compatible. Speedo gear will need swapped.
300tdi autos are edc injection pumps which will fit onto the 200tdi but will need the no 4 injector with the wire to run this
yer sell the 200tdi & buy an auto. lol

200 and early 300 autos were not edc, edc came out on the (I think) 95 N reg models, when bhp went from 111 to 121.
Even the edc models still had a kickdown cable, they had a throttle cable from throttle pedal to a throttle potentiometer under the bonnet, then kickdown cable from potentiometer to the gearbox.

Ah cool so he'd need to find an early 200tdi disco & rob all the bits from it. :)
