Hi guys
Over the past couple of months ever since I got my 2a 200tdi back on the road I've been replacing front crank oil seals ( inner ) due to them keep leaking, the engine was originally a Def 200 and now re-dressed as a disco 200 and after re-fitting the engine back in today and running after replacing the front inner seal its still leaking now even though the engine has been re-dressed as a disco 200 I am still using the Def crank pulley and i'm just wondering it there is a difference between the disco and defender 200tdi crank pulleys internally, anyone got any idea's please before I go and buy a disco one :(

I’m not familiar with them seals, but what is the seal land like on the shaft? Is it possible it’s damaged and will keep leaking regardless of the seal? Are you fitting the seal the correct way around, and using some form of liquid gasket on the block to seal faces?

Yeah using good make seals and rtv with new gaskets and stuff but think i've found the problem as there is a 2p sized could be bigger gasket that should fit between the block and timing case which all 3 of my new gasket sets don't have and have never removed or seen one whilst removing / refitting the timing cases till i saw a pic on youtube about a guy who had same problem as me and its a criticle gasket to fit so hopefully that's the problem, just annoyed with myself for not spotting it earlier and now have to re-order stuff and do it all again :oops::mad:

@cornish rattler This one?

The one that goes behind the cam belt idler?

It's always in a little plastic bag with the oblong block cover plates/lift pump gaskets.

Earlier today i got round to stripping the front of the engine down and checked that my new gasket set has this gasket and it does so before i fit this gasket i've noticed in the pic that the gasket only covers part of the bottom hole is this right as i'm trying to work out how it keeps the oil back :confused:

That circular disc gasket seals the timing case to the block at the bolt and it stops it from letting oil in through the threads creeping in through cappilliary action.

Are right I see, I thought it would have come out from the lower hole
Oh and does it need anything on it or is it a dry gasket.
