other than the famous four one - does any one have the correct part number for the brake vacuum pump refurb kit for a 200tdi ?

got advisory for lack of vac on last mot so best change it before the next one.....

pipe work is good and it gives a tiny bit of vac but not much - unless revved
 
When i did mine i seem to remember I just ordered individual parts? Whats wrong with the FF one?
 
Was being a fud.

Just assumed because famous four did a kit there was a kit.

I ended up ordering the kit anyway. Hurt a bit as the postage for the kit alone from famous four stung.
 
Fitted the kit.

Noticeable wear on the original vanes

Fitted new vanes and seals.

No notable difference to the amount of suck

Next stop ....servo.

Dont they rot out at the bottom? Im sure my mates did just that and as his was an early 90 it was a pita getting one to fit.
Have you checked the non return valve is actually working? or the rubber hose has not come apart inside?
 
its had a new servo in the past - ok....maybe 5 years ago :D

driving it today - noticably more assistance - even at tick over - which is where it lacked before , sitting at lights - if id used all the vac on the way to the lights it would go and stay wooden till i started moving again.

I still don't think my brakes are tip top ,sharp though they are i think a master cylinder rebuild is on the cards - the pedal sinks - and its more than diesel creep .... but ill check the rear cylinders as well.
 
iirc, theres a vent hole in the 'pump's driveshaft that can block with old / dried / carburised oil etc. and this lowers the effentcy of the 'pump'o_O

easily cleared with a pin or small drillbit...

is there supposed to be a hole through the centre of the pump ?

Mines got a through hole left to right about 1/4 way up then what i presume is the vent hole through one side about another 1/8th of the way up

I dont really see how oil gets into the pump body.

I had a good prod about but nothing was gained and i ran out of time.
 
right - ideas folks.

When revs are up i get plenty vac.

MY servo holds a vac overnight.

When at idle i get **** vac.

I have replaced vanes and gaskets in the pump and above/below - things have definantly improved - in thats when i deplete the vac before starting and hold my foot on the brake - it sinks on start up - it didnt do this before.

MY issue is that at idle - if i do any braking it exhausts the vac quicker than it can build - see cadence braking downhill with a heavy trailer on. I don't recall it being like this - am i remembering through rose tinted specs or am i right that this is wrong.

Having read the tech docs for the pump i understand now the oil flows up the middle and the pressure forces the vanes out to contact the walls.

Thoughts ?
 
If the vanes are foced out by oil pressure, maybe you have low oil pressure or low flow?

As the vanes resemble air tool vanes, I would assume they are thrown outwards to contact the walls by centrifugal force, thinking out loud, idle to low?

Iirc the vac pump is driven off the same gear/shaft that drives the oil pump?

Did you check the nrv is doing its job?
 
I did and the nrv works grand. Removed it and sucked/blew through it.

Don't get me wrong. If I'm out driving and I stamp on the brakes they will throw you through the window.

But if i am going down a steep hill and I'm cadence braking to slow without revving in between I seem to exhaust the availible vacuum.

Likewise if I go jump in the landy now and stick my foot on the brake it takes 2/3 presses to get a solid pedal (vac exhausted) and it takes a little to get the vac up again once it's started.if I blip the throttle while holding the brake I get vac much quicker.

Yes the vac pumps driven off the top of oil pump.

Don't have a oil pressure gauge how ever the light seems to work. ....itshowed low yesterday during priming it post service and it went off - then I started it and it's remained off since. It's full of 15/40 mineral now

When I had it stripped down j could not see how oil got down the centre into the pump. -i didn't know it was supposed to haha
 
You might be onto something wjth the low idle.

It does vibrate the body a bit at idle. If I stick a tiny bit of throttle on -barely raising it it stops all the vibration. I might twerk it and see what it does.
Also the alternator light won't go out until I've touched the throttle. -even with the new alternator and a tight belt.....

Infact that's adding up quite well. Will try tweeking it in a bit
 
There is a couple of o rings on the vac pump shaft ones inside the shaft hole both I changed had gone flat
Worn o ring can cause Low oil pressure as in manual

Oops missed that yesterday.

Any idea what size /on for that oring or do I just hit it with my box of random.rubber ?
 
looks like oring PN is ERR532

Can this be changed in situ by removing the vac pump and fishing out the old one ?
 
reading further into it - if that oring was missing/damaged id have no oil pressure period rather than none at the vac pump.

I'm inclined to think i might have carbon deposits or otherwise blocking the shaft to the vanes. Hence when i rev centrifugal force is giving me vac but at idle I'm not getting pressure behind the vanes to create vac.

Ill have a look tomorrow night.
 
Rebuilt the master cylinder tonight.

First seal in looked like it had had a tough life. Was all worn and rusty.

Only 5 years old :)

Will have to wait till Friday to bleed. My easibleeds at a mates and I didnt notice.
 
oh yes , with the number of reports of the britparts being DOA im half tempted to just buy a used one off eblag.

Also now that my brake system is empty till i get my easibleed back from my mate ill strip down the vac pump tonight and have a good strip down on the bench see if i cant get to this vent hole and clean it out some how. Brakes better be **** hot after this.

Mot is next Thursday. I think with the vac tester ill at least be able to ID the issue.
