Hi all

Gave my Rangie 200tdi a really good thrash on the way home from work the other day.

Now - unfortunately - it's developed a ticking noise and the rearmost part of the engine is covered in black gunk.

I've been on top of the engine when running and the noise is coming from injector 3 - you can see diesel bubbling around the base of the injector.

Is this just an injector problem or symptom of head gasket etc.

Thanks
Will

hi its either a loose injector or more likely head gasket failure to atmosphere at very back of head where bulkhead is !!!its very common !!

Hi again,

I'm not having much luck with my Rangie of late - up until 2 or 3 weeks ago she was running sweet as a nut.

Please see above for outline of problem but it was essentially a ticking noise which seemed to be coming from no. 3 injector.

Yesterday I tried to remove the injector and got it moving from side to side ok but could not lift it out of the head. So I gave up and connected everything back up again.

On restarting the engine today it took ages to fire and when it did it was running rough. Only on 3 cylinders. BUT the ticking has stopped. I've cracked the nut on the top of the injector with engine running and fuel comes ****ing out. So I am thinking I have somehow killed a malfunctioning injector. Does that sound correct?

One other weird symptom not present before I took the injector off is that even running on 3 cylinders for a few minutes seems to create massive pressure in the fuel tank. You can clearly hear a hissing sound when you switch off and if slowly crack the fuel cap a LOT of pressure escapes.

I'd really appreciate some advice on this one - cheers guys

ok to remove a tight injector you will need a slide hammer !! you can make a fitting to screw slide hammer onto injector and gently shock it out ! dont lose the small copper sealing washer !! it sounds like you have a blocked bleed off system in your injector!! its caused by tiny bits of chrome . this is the hard finish wearing from internal pump wear!! if you take out your stop selonoid and find small bits of chrome ( use a magnetic pickup) in the hole ! if you do then its time to change inj pump and get injectors serviced !!
hope this helps!! good luck think of it as a challenge !!!!

Update on this - I have renewed the injector (got a Bearmach recon one from Island 4x4) and everything is right again.

No more ticking and infact the engine seems to be running sweeter than before and there is much less puff of black smoke on start up.

So all in all I'm a happy bunny and thankfully I didn't have to take the head off or other major work

Cheers all

:)
