Recently bought a 2008 90 Puma on the basis that it required a new engine and took it to a LR specialist who said they did not believe it required a new engine and said it was injector and EGR related. I have had two new injectors replaced and a new EGR fitted and told this was hopefully sorted.

A week later....I hear a metallic tapping noise coming from the engine on acceleration, turns out oil is bubbling out from the injectors and the engine is still chuffing when the oil filler cap is removed. But the car starts fine, no smoke from the exhaust, no stalling, no loss of power and drives lovely.

Does this mean I do need a new engine?

Can anyone help?

I am having new injector seals, bolts and clamps fitted next week at a different garage to see what that does.
I bet you paid upwards of £600 for the specialist to fit 2 new injectors. I'd take it back to them to fix what they should have got right first time. But its your choice. Make sure the next garage, if you go that way, knows not to mix the injectors up on re-fitting, they need to be individually coded to the ECU and that requires specialist equipment.

Thank you for the advice, much appreciated.
