Hi everyone,

Need some help, I've got a 2005 110 station wagon jumped in yesterday put the lights on only side lights came on! No dipped or main beam only flashing main beam.

I know a wee bit about electrics, so tested column control all good 12volts leaving! Tried swapping relays in fuse box on centre console no joy!

Then tried relays under drivers seat at ecu still no joy!

Ripped out instrument panel what ones the dim dip relay? Thinking this could be the guilty sucker although not sure what one it is, there's a pink to left although only two spades on the relay. The others are heated windcreen, fog relay, flasher unit and one other?

At abit of a loss now! Also where's the dim dip resistor located! Books are fab although I would have to say that the Haynes manual wiring diagram is a tad better than the land rover workshop manual.

All the fuses inside the cab re lights are all intact! Not sure if there's anymore? There's a relay under drivers wing under blanked air intake grill don't know what this does?

Landie in bits and in the dark! The headlight leveling motor wines light a dead animal, don't think that's relevant though!

Aaaaaaaaah it's dark!

Enlighten me please!

Headlight switch. A common problem with Defenders. A search taking 30 seconds on here would have given you the answer and saved hours of head scratching.:D:doh:

I would have a look at the switch. There is a copper pin that makes contact with another pin when you pull the switch leaver towards you that closes the circuit to make the headlights work. The pin can get warm, or worn, and recess a little too far into the casing that surrounds it, stoping it from making contact. You need to take the cowling of the steering column, take the switch off and check. You can probably get it to work again a bit of effort but it usually means it time for a new switch.
