Im a newbee.

My 2004 TD4 Freelander has just started to let its self go this last year; but the recent big issue is the car shaking badly from the front end when started from cold. The revs are hovering/ twitching under 1000rpm & when i do try to set off the engines power dips off. It doesnt stall but the power takes a while to kick in; It hates slight inclines especially when started.

I did think it might have been the flywheel following a partial clutch repair earlier in the year but my Mech says its not that. Just had the airfilter & oil filter changed which were both very shabby cost £370.00 (also had rear handle replaced, passenger lock mech fixed, aerial mount fixed & Drivers door hinge replaced)But the problem is still there.

Any Ideas? Im at a loss. Otherwise its been a greater motor:)

Hi boulders, and :welcome2:

First off I'd check the turbo hoses.

Get someone to hold the revs steady around 2500rpm and check all around the hoses for flipts that look like they were made by a Stanley knife.

Especially check the 90degree bend one.

The back of the longest turbo hose (on the left as you look at the engine) may have a hole where it has probably been rubbing against a screw-head.

Failing that, next disconnect the MAF sensor and see if the vehicle performs differently. If much better - your MAF is kaput and needs replacing.

You can't leave it disconnected as the power will be there at the expense of higher mpg.

Good luck.

Singvogel.
