I know, oil questions have been done to death on most car forums, butI have just had my 2004 Freelander serviced by a very reputable and well respected independent garage who used 15w40 oil in my 2004 TD4.
I have loads of old receipts from Lancaster Land Rover showing that the only oil they ever used to service this car was 5w30 Mobil Super 3000. This agrees with the handbook, Haynes manual, and other online sources such as Opie Oils.
My question is, was there some sort of modification to the M47 in 2003 that forced the change from 15w40 to 5w30, i.e. bigger oil pump etc?
This car is going to be used in sub zero temperatures for 6 months of the year and so the lighter weight oil is preferable for me, so I think I am going to ask them to change it.
Cheers, Paul.
