Hi Guys, I got the Air Suspension Inactive message show up in my car the other day along with the light going out on the air suspension control on the dashboard. It is now locked into normal ride height and hasn't dropped down (so no leak).

I had a look underneath the car today and saw a disconnected 'rod' on the front Drivers side (Offside front) but I have no idea what it is (photos attached - one is of it disconnected and the other is a photo from a few months ago when I had the drop links replaced).

Can anyone tell me what that part is?

Thanks in advance for any help

First photo is the connection rod to the height sensor - this is either broken or not put back properly and is the cause of your issue! - Replace, clear the fault code and re-calibrate the EAS, job done.

The second is a replaced Anti roll bar drop link!

Thanks for the info guys, im guessing the height sensor connecting rod is broken as it has never been disconnected in the 5 years I've owned the car!

Just some information I've found out that might be useful to other forum members who have the same issue as me in the future - on l322's with xenon headlights you need to make sure the height sensor has 6 pins (off side only). All of the height sensors I'm seeing on eBay and other online sellers etc only have 3 pins so they will work with the eas but won't level the Xenons. I managed to find a used one from a breakers with 6 pins for £12. I would have preferred to buy new but I couldn't find any with 6 pins for a decent price.

Also I read somewhere that if you disconnect the negative battery terminal before replacing the height sensor then the eas doesn't need calibration after its replaced - does anyone know if this is true or just an urban myth?

Urban Myth.....

The sensors are not precision devices....and as such there will be differences in data readings at a given position - hence why you have to tell the EAS ECU what the data readings are for the new sensor at a set datum height - hence why it will need calibrating.

Now, it won't be a million miles out, maybe the height difference will be 5-10mm if that, but in order to do the job properly, once you replace the sensor, you need to calibrate the ride heights.

+1 on Ant's comment.
I think by now I have replaced every height sensor on the Golden Girl and have bought new, with no issues, each time.

Then again, there is what one means by 'a decent price'. These are Range Rover and it has been said so many times, they may now seem cheap to buy. There is a reason for that, they are not cheap to maintain. A Range Rover maintained on the cheap ( this does not include those brave and clever people, who do the spannering themselves) will be even more trouble than a RR showered in TLC. For the difference of 20ish pounds, Id go new every time.

Parts for the P38 are very cheap. But I agree, with things like height sensors, buy new.

My bad, the conversation was about the L322, so I didnt specify L322 when mentioning price of parts. P38 parts are cheap but the L322 doesnt like that game. I wonder if it will ever come in line with the P38, and the price of parts drop. I doubt it though :(

Totally get pricing for mechanical and electronic parts, but £200+ for a parcel shelf????? where's the mdf and fabric glue lol

I bought one for £50 off eBay but it only had 3 pins (therefore no xenon levelling). That's why I looked again and got the used one for £12 which is at least 100% compatible. The price was not the deal breaker here!

I don't mind eBay for some things but with all the fuss about very good fakes, I tend to get new parts from known suppliers. Sometimes , I check for the company selling on ebay, through a search engine, just to check they are genuine. Thats what I did with the brake discs and pads for the Volvo. Actually got a better deal through their website after telling them I had found them on ebay. Maybe to do with fees on ebay?

Fair point, on safety items like air suspension struts, brake pads/discs I always pay extra for branded parts from known suppliers. With a height sensor the worst that could happen is it either doesn't work or stops working - if that happened you could get your money back from eBay by filing a claim so not the end of the world.

Not had any luck getting money back from Ebay.

As @Datatek says, eBay can be a hit or a miss. I've had no issues recently , possibly because I am now a VIP Member , with concierge service. Although I have no idea why , or what it entails, other than the concierge service. However, I have previously been let down by eBay.
There are quite a few well known companies that are mentioned on here. I think one might even be a site sponsor?, although others might know for definite. It's all horses for courses. Sometimes eBay is good for second hand parts, sometimes it isn't and same goes for suppliers, sometimes good for new parts, sometimes not.

In 10 years I have only had 2 problem purchases. The first one the seller refunded without a problem, the second is a continuing dispute. Ebay dismissed my claim out of hand, contravening the 2013 Consumer Contracts legislation. Currently the matter is in the hands of Paypal and Trading Standards. I don't hold out much hope with PayPal, the seller is ignoring them. As for Trading Standards, if nothing else it will give the seller something to think about.

Well , I guess you're doing very well then, if this is the only issue you've ever had with them. One problem in ten years is a great result.
I've been using EBay almost from the start in UK(eeek! Is it that long already). I remember, and sometimes miss, the days of empty toothpaste tubes being sold on it 71AvLmcCUfL._UX395_.jpg . As they progressed, for a few years, sellers were a nightmare. There was a time , around 15yrs ago, I was totally fed up with them and was reluctant to use them. However, they got better and whilst still a hit or a miss sometimes, they are better than they were. I guess As they deal with third parties all the time, they can't be expected to get it right all the time. Especially if the third party wont play ball.

My i930 was delivered today, just had a play with it and it's a decent bit of kit - has loads of live data streams that you can monitor, from gearbox oil temp, coolant temp, radiator coolant temp, battery voltage etc and lots of other useful info.

In my eagerness to see if it could clear eas faults I cleared my faulty front right height sensor error (not replaced yet) which in hindsight I shouldn't have as now the back of my car is jacked up and the front has come right down (A-Team van look). Will be interesting to see if the height will go back to normal ish range once the sensor is replaced before it gets calibrated
