I seem to be having a tiny oil leak from the rocker cover on the td5 engine.

I removed the black plastic engine cover and then have checked that all 13 8mm bolts were all torqued up properly.

It seems that all the bolts are tight but there is a tiny weep still coming at the bulkhead end right in the centre of the gasket from some sort of flap to it.

I have ran my finger along the rocker gasket at the back of the engine and climbed on top of the engine to get my head in as much as i could. It looks like on the back of the engine there is a rubber flap which i can get my nail under and it is from here that oil is coming from. It seems to be part of the rocker gasket.

Does anyone know if this flap type thingy is part of the gasket, as ideally i want to just order a new gasket and fit it.

Thanks

ah i see so theres a good chance that replacing this gasket will stop that leak then!

Had a look on ebay genuine seal is £34 ish there is a bearmach one for £6.99 though. Any suggestions?

Also will the seal alone stop any leaks or does it need any gasket sealant applying to it at the same time

cheers

Where the bolts go through there are metal anti-crush tubes to stop them squeezing the gasket too tightly. It's always a good idea to fit a new gasket, but I find a smear of sealant helps a bit as well because there are parts, such as the half moon rocker shaft bits, where the pressure alone doesn't entirely suffice. I fitted the cheapest gasket known to humanity in October 2012 with sealant and it's been dry ever since.
