Hello,

I have a 2003 Freelander 2.5L G4 edition with 47K miles. I can not get the cruise control to turn on. When I press the button left of the gauge pod the light turns on, but then when I use the steering wheel buttons nothing happens. The rotary coupler was replaced a few months ago when the horn stopped working.

I looked at the rave manual and didn't see anything that helped me. Any links or help is appreciated.

Could be loads of things....... My first guess is it's to do with the rotary coupler. Either the wrong one was used or the cc wasn't plugged in correctly.

Was the cruise working before the horn stopped working?

I don't know. We test drove the car, horn worked, then the next day the horn stopped working. Also the car has an aftermarket head unit so no clue if the volume buttons work.

I looked at the fuses, and didn't see an exact one for cruise but figured since the light comes on that it wasn't an electrical problem. The picture I saw on another forum suggested to check the vacuum pump which was shown in front of the battery box. But for whatever reason I cannot find the vacuum pump as it was shown in the picture.

you did not feel a snap did you when going around a corner if so the rotary couple was not put in right there is a little square and when the rotary couple is in the right place to put the steering wheel back on it fills that square with a white square if it is in any other place then the cable in the rotary coupler will just snap and be useless .you can check this by taking the steering wheel of and gently with one finger turn the rotary coupler top gently if it comes to a stop then it is ok if it keeps going then it has had it. as it is this that couples all your electrics up. hope this helps

I will check that. What I did when I installed it was turn it all the way one direction, then all the way the other direction. Divided that number in half and turned it back that many turns. I think that put the coupler in the middle position.

is the main on ,off switch ok, to which I mean is there power coming out of the switch

if u put a multimeter on it to see what volts u get, then if u remove the steering wheel have u got power on the paddle switch

is the ecu ok, it hasn't had anything put on it has it by mistake , with it being under ur seat,

have u tried unplugging the main switch and checking there are no broken or misplaced pins, also check ur ecu connector

hope that make help abit
