Hello. I need a little advice. My 2002 freelander td4 automatic developed a loud grinding noise yesterday from the drivers side of the engine bay. It only makes a noise when idle. As soon as you touch the gas pedal it stops. After some investigation I've been told that it might be the crankshaft pulley damper has worn out or it has come loose. I don't have the tools needed to remove this part and the nearest garage is a half hour drive. Is it OK to drive with this problem or not? Thank you in advance.

It should be ok. Many owner's don't notice the failure until it literally falls apart. Make sure you only fit an OE part as pattern parts last no time at all.

These can be an absolute so and so to get off, I do plenty on rover 75s.

Air gun and locking tool is essential, and a really long spanner lol

OK. Thank you. I wasn't sure if it was safe to drive it to the garage. Tried to get off myself but I can't manage it. Thanks again.

I gathered that the hard way today. Lol. Tried with a friend to get it off and failed miserably. Taking it to the garage tomorrow . Thanks for the info.
