So i have just bought a 2002 V8 Discovery XS and have a few questions for the guys on here that know more about them than me.
I have not been able to do a search as I am on my little girls hudl2 and each time I click the search button the keypad pops up then dissapears again so appologies for that.

First question would have to be, what rpm should a V8 tick over at?

What rpm should I have at 60mph? I am seeing just over 2000rpm.

How can I find out what LPG system I have? Not sure when it is kicking in or out, I have twin tanks in place of original fuel tank and a small petrol tank to the right behind the bumper, there is a round button on dash with one light at the top and four at the bottom that all illuminate, I noticed on my way home that after awhile the four bottom lights started flashing, there looked to be four kinda purge valves on top off the engine, I have still not had a proper look as it has been raining since I picked it up.

What kind of 18" AT tyres are cheap but good for greenlaning and rtv trials? I have Insa turbo rangers on my series 2a but cannot find them in 18".

Pretty sure I will have millions more questions but these will do for now

Thor V8's start at 1200rpm when cold and tick over at 650rpm or so when hot.

If the LPG system is set to start when the engine is warm, you possibly wouldn't notice it, just fill the tanks and see how much you are using.

The four LED display is usually the contents gauge, the Red LED is petrol operation and the Green LED is LPG. The LED's flash when the LPG has run out.

The LPG ECU is usually parked under the battery cover in the compartment by the jack etc. The ECU is probably one of the common types and should have a maker's name on it.

We are in Holland until Wednesday, LPG is very available here, almost all garages sell it, cheapest in Europe was Luxembourg on the E25 where it was 43.7 cents a litre. Most expensive was 87 cents a litre.

Thanks for the info about LPG and position of ECU, I am wondering if there wamight be a fault with the system as the guy I bought the disco off told me he had just put 60ltrs of LPG in the tanks but on the way home the four lights started flashing, LPG is 80p pltr here in Shetland

Sounds like there is an issue, the ECU relies on gas pressure to determine if the tanks are empty, so if the solenoid gas valves on the tanks are faulty there may not be sufficient gas pressure to tell the ECU it's OK to run.

There is another gas valve on the vapouriser, same thing applies, and if the outlet filters are blocked, the engine may not be seeing suitable running pressure either.

Sounds like you need to find a vehicle LPG installer with the necessary ECU reader etc.

Thanks again for that info but unfortunately I don't think there is an LPG installer in Shetland, however the co reading on the mot test today was 0.05% and the hc was 295, the tester said he has never seen a V8 so low

Our last MOT showed CO at 0.002, so you've got some work to do! :D:D

We hadn't long come back from a 2000 mile round trip to France and Holland towing our big trailer, so the engine and exhaust was pretty clean.

Just back from a similar trip last night, MOT is due 13th July, I've got it booked in on the 18th June.
