Hello all I need some advice or help with my 2001 discovery td5. Yesterday I replaced the clutch. After I started it up and took it for a drive ran fine but seemed to have lost power. This morning I went to start it up and the battery was flat so I put jump leads on it and it wouldn’t start just crank over. So I assumed it was out of fuel so I put 10 liters of fuel in put the jump leads back on after about 10 tries it started but the battery light was on but every time I rev it up the light would go off until I let it tick over then would come back on and the wipers started going slow then I turned off went to start it back up but the battery was dead. I’ve check the battery terminals they are tight. So any help or advice would be grateful thanks

Your heading implies that you know what the problem might be.

Once running have you measured for voltage at the battery? And again with all heavy-draw electrical items on? Should be between 14 and 15 volts.
Low battery power can mean that it will crank over but not start as the ECM needs to see a certain voltage before it will fire the injectors.

Have you charged the batt overnight to see if it will then start? Good first step. Then do the alternator checks, also check the voltage while cranking. Should be about 10 volts or just below.
Battery light DOES imply alternator problem.
Basics, is the belt tight? Tensioner working properly?
Are all alternator connections clean and sound, bolts done up properly, good earth to both engine and eventually battery?
Could be worn or loose brush(es) or rectifier/ regulator pack has a problem.

Loads of stuff on the internet as regards testing and even fixing dodgy alternators.

Outstanding reply there @Stanleysteamer 🥰

I’ve checked all connections and there fine I’ve only just purchased my td5 under the bonnet is very muddy and the alternator is covered in mud I’ve tried another good battery same thing the battery light is on while it was ticking over I took battery lead off and it cut out so indicates to me the alternator is nakerd I think I’m right I’m not sure
