After a drafty drive home, due to the driver window on my cursed Disco II refused to come back up, the nice man from the RAC informed me that the teeth on the cog arm have come off. My question is; is this cog arm thing replaceable or does it come with the motor and therefore gonna cost me big? My Haynes is useless for this and have been going through the threads on here but can't find the same problem. Meanwhile the button is taped up to attempt to stop me using it as this will just happen again as the motor is working fine. All help greatly appreciated.

on my 2001 td5 i had the same problem. its a nylon knuckle type joint on the window regulator that breaks my mechanic mate who did it said its a common thing with the regulators on all cars he has done loads . he said dont f--k about trying to repair it get a new regulator' he fitted a new one a bit of a fiddley job easier if there are two of you. neither he or i can remember if the motor came with the regulator as it was about 2 years ago. he said some do some dont' if you are fairly competant do it if not get someone who knows what they are doing. the front passenger side on mine went the same about 3 months later .

The welds on the gearwheel fail and that causes the problem. Pattern replacement regulators aren't very expensive - around £25 from Britcar and do the job.

You will of course break some of the pesky little plastic clips that hold the door trim on so get some of those as well - cheapest from ebay.

hi ya
probably those plastic wheels that run in the channel ,mine broke in half, why didnt landrover make them in metal !
good luck

Thanks to all of you for replying and your help, it really is very much appreciated.
Got the regulator out, no teeth missing so don't know what the RAC was on about. Took it apart from the motor, those teeth (also metal) all in tact, then it fell apart as the three weld points are gone on the cog to the arm. Pretty sure the n/s one will go next based on the noise out of it but what I've saved in garage hours will pay for the other part.
