Hello,

I've got a Y-reg (2001) Defender 110 County SW.

The other day, trundling along in slow traffic, my speedo, fuel gauge and temperature gauge all stopped working.

The dashboard lights were okay, and the clock was still working.

Then I noticed that my indicators had stopped working. When I parked up outside Halfords, I tried the hazard lights. They worked for about five 'flashes' then stopped.

I'm sure I heard a faint squeaking/groaning sound as they gave up!

I also noticed that the rear wash/wipe had packed up.

A quick check of the fusebox showed that number 8 fuse (10 amp) had blown. Once the fuse was replaced, the dials worked, as did the rear wash wipe.

But not the indicators or the hazard lights.

I've now also noticed that the interior lights don't come on when any of the doors are opened, (although they work when manually switched on) and it seems I can no longer set the alarm with the key fob.

The fuse I replaced is still good and all other fuses seem okay.

Stereo works, cigarette lighter works, horn works. Car starts fine and runs fine.

Any ideas? Do you think simply replacing the flasher unit thingy behind the fusebox will fix everything?

Oh, and another thing... why do the wiring diagrams in my Haynes manual have a gap between 1996 and 2002?

Not that I understand them anyway!

Cheers,

T

Is there a relay thats come loose somewhere.... I had the same problem in my Transit a while ago and it was one of the main relays playing up.

check the earth strap under the drivers seat. Also have a look at the back of the hazard light switch, Give it a sniff too. They like to melt.

have u checked the fuses next to the ECU?? Sounds like the relay for the flashers turn them on and you should feel it working (clicking) OR AS SOMEONE SAID COULD BE THE SWITCH for the hazards. :)

Had the same - signaling left for a long time indicators started to interfere with radio, then indicators stopped as panel fuel dial etc failed. Replaced fuse in main fuse box over gearbox 3 times to get home. Replaced flasher unit in same main fuse box and all ok with flashers/hazards .... but now interior lights will not work! Found/replaced another busted fuse in fuse box under drivers seat - int lights still will not work!

Have been told something to do with the alarm - which still works. This makes sense, because before failure arm/disarm alarm system from key fob would turn off/on interior lamps - now nothing.

Am going into my hate phase with love/hate relationship with landy

have you checked the fuse box under the drivers seat? next the ECU

I must have the same problem, 90 defender TD5. Rear wiper packed up, followed by indicators, speedo, and temp guage! Will have a look tomorrow, when i'm off work. If the thing has thawed out !

funny enough I just did a search for this and found a post with the same answer from Jan 09...

the same thing happened to me yesterday...!!!
all fine, sudently, the indicators stoped working, the fuel and temp gauge were gone and the hazards worked for 2 flashs and then were gone too..

Need to check all that stuff that has been mentioned!
Suppose its the same for my 1992 Def 90?

This happened to me too when I pulled off the ferry.....how strange....

I drove back and it gradually came back.....I get the feeling it may be a dodgy earth somewhere but its too cold to look at the minute.

I have to try and sort mine out today...really dont like driving with no indicators..

well.. just been out to check my fuses.. all 3 blown! indicators and hazards..

going to get new ones and see what happens...

Anybody managed to sort this problem?

Mine has just done exactly the same; driving along and all of a sudden my indicators, fuel gauge and temperature gauge stopped working.

I've had a faf about and found that my left rear light has also stopped working.
Checked all the fuses but they all seem fine:mad:

Not having a the best of times as my battery died last week, the brakes went and it failed on me the other day!

Thanks in advance.

Yeh, i sorted mine.

its an earth problem...

take the covers off your indicators, front and rear, and give the contacts a clean.

that sorted mine out, and have read other threads where it sorted the problem for other peeps

Thanks JP, will try that tomorrow.

If the hazards work but the indicators don't, I'd suspect the hazard switch. The flasher unit is shared so it won't be that. For the indicators to work, there needs to be continuity through the hazard switch in the off position.
