Hi, can anyone give me some pointers? Driving down the motorway at speed and all of a sudden I heard a pop and the temp gauge went through the roof. I pulled over, had a look under the bonnet and the RHS rad top hose had an 18 inch split in it. I managed to get it off the road, did a repair and got home about 3 hours later. Got a new top hose, and thermostat, just went for a drive and literally a mile down the road the needle was in the red again.
Before I fitted the thermostat I flushed the system from the expansion bottle, then stuck the hosepipe through both top hose housings on the rad and there appeared to be no bloackage at all. I did notice though that both the fans on the front of the rad aint turning so checked all the fuses/relays and they seem to be fine. Any ideas anyone?

water pumps do play up (dragging air in on 2 I have seen) but there are tell tail signs when you switch off. Such little distance indicates a circulation problem or possible head gasket likely.

The fans on the front of the rad won't run unless you are using aircon, they are there to cool that not the engine.

I've got a similar prob. my range rover overheats when i turn the ac on!!! my front fans don't work either and have check the fuses, relays, and ac temp swith to no avail - i am still baffled so its no ac for me - lets hope it rains this summer!!!

Aircon fans only come on when the gas pressure reaches a certain level which indicates over temperature in the condensor. Low gas in the system may be the reason your fans do not work.
