Hi All,

I have just failed to fix my sometimes "off", but mostly "on" SRS light in my 2000 (W-reg) Freelander 1.8 5 door.

It is the wiring to the seatbelt pretensioner on the driver's seat (I've checked the pre-tensioner itself with a multimeter and it is fine). Thinking it was the plug, I got a second-hand replacement and soldered it on at lunchtime.

However that didn't help, so I figure the (previously erratic, now permanent) break in the wiring must be further down the cable which disappears under the carpet by the centre console.

Shame-faced I admit that cable has been stretched a few times (including today) when removing the seat - swapping a knackered old seat for the current one, repairing the CD changer etc. So I want to replace the entire length and would like to know where that cable goes; does it go to an airbag / SRS ECU (if so where will I find that)?

The MoT is Monday, but I'm working Saturday...and it's raining on Sunday...aargh...!

As far as I know all it needs to see is a resistance across the terminals to clear the light. If you could find what the value is then you could isolate the circuit.
 
Are you 100% sure it's the belt pre-tensioner? The clock spring failing is more common than the pre-tensioner wiring.

I hadn't thought of that - might get through an MoT I guess, but kinda defeats the purpose of having airbags and pretensioners though!

Yes 85% to 95% sure. I have a TopDon Artidiag 600 code reader and I checked the SRS light a few months ago when the SRS light started to come on occasionally; it said driver's pretensioner. I subsequently upgraded the Land Rover files to the latest version and it would no longer read the Freelander's SRS fault codes (but I did update yet again this evening and I will see if that fixes that slightly annoying "quirk").

On the original question; I've found the answer in my Haynes manual after some digging...that cable goes straight to the SRS ECU which is located in the centre console beneath the radio, heater controls etc on a bracket screwed to the transmission tunnel.

Weather looks crap on Sunday...yay...
