been offerd a range rover classic c reg that failed the mot on chassis problems.£250 bodywork very tidy and it has a 200 tdi engine in it which is well sweet as i have driven it..
question is did the rangie come with a 200 tdi from the factory or has it been transplanted.is it likely to be a disco tdi.

will all the pipework to the rad fit in my 90 or will i have to replace all that
seriously thinking about buying it and storing it untill i can afford the transplant or am i chasing a no goer here?

Some late RRC's had the TDi. I would guess it were the disco unit, but i don't know.

The pipes are really easy to make fit also.

If it has alloys on it then they are worth £100, I got £150 for my disco for scrap, and that was with no engine or axles.

with the axles fit on the rear of my 90 to give me disc brakes aswell?..
looks like if it does i would be daft not to bung him £250 notes then..yes it has alloys and near new tyres but only road tyres.

dont know about the axle. but its likely to be the same. RRC, disco 1 and defenders all share alot of parts. I would thoroughly check the engine and if its a minter, go for it :D take the engine and axle, sell the alloys and other bits on ebay and scrap it. you WILL make your 250 back but it WILL cost you alot of your time. dont be tempted to scrap the RRC before yours is up and running and been checked. you will need all the engine ancil. along with fuel gauge senders etc.

As far as i know they will go straight on.

As the person who advised me when i bought my disco, whats it worth to YOU... If you look round it, and think... Do I really need to bother wise this currently? Then its probably not worth it.

But... If you have a good use for it, and the space to do it/keep it etc, then yeah its worth it.

Why the fuel gauge senders?

dont really have the space but could bend someones arm to store it..but its like everything it will be sods law if i buy it my 2.5 td will go on forever, but if it went bang i wouldnt be able to find a tdi.
the only thing that puts me off is the amount or work to get the engine out and into mine,,whereas if i buy an engine already out then thats half the job already.mmmmm what to do

If you buy an engine already removed from the donor vehicle how do you know if it's any good or not?

very true.i have driven the rangie and i know a guy at the garage where it went in for its mot as it was him that gave me the nod on the motor.

It takes less than a day to remove an engine. If you had all the bits and tools to hand, you could do the entire conversion in 2-3 days. Mine took about 5 of solid work, cos i had to keep going in outta the rain, and going off to get bits and bobs.

To give you a rough idea... It is easy to take an engine completely out, change the clutch and get it back in in 4 hours, in an average driveway, with average home mech tools.

Its all good fun!

Pre-removed engines are more expensive though, from what I have gathered.

scrap has dropped dramatically over the last two weeks. it was 180 per ton about a month ago, its now down to about 60
