fitted a 2nd hand injection pump to my 200 disco
it starts on the button just fine.
but it just wont rev very well and is so sluggish I know my last pump was tweaked which made a hooge difference.
pulling away in first it will almost stall and u need to give it some beans to get it moving
other issue is its guzzling the fuel..
60 litres to do 63 miles
theres no leaks anywhere
any ideas ??
 
If it's using that much fuel you should have a cloud of black smoke out the back like a destroyer laying a smoke screen. It cannot use that much fuel and not smoke. Maybe look at the diaphragm in the boost fuel control someone may have been playing with it or is has an hole in it.

thanks will have a look..it smokes less than my tweaked pump did..i would say dark grey smoke definitely not plumes of black
its just so slowwwwww its unreal

At nearly a litre of fuel a mile you have a big problem. 60 litres is 13.18 gallons 63 miles out of that is around 4.78 miles per gallon if it's not smoking it would be a bloody miracle. Tweaking the pump is easy you just increase fuel on the adjuster, then rev and adjust for minimum smoke, then drop idle back to normal. Playing with the boost fuel regulator can cause a lot of problems if you don't know what you are doing. Your new pump may have been played with by someone in that category.
 
No disrespect, but think you need some who knows what they are doing to look at it. Did you have the crank locked when you timed it?
been working on landrovers for over 15 years and have replaced more engines and more timing kits after cambelt breakage than I care to remember so I like to think we know what were doing ;) and yes timing pins were used

Ok fair enough, but it makes one wonder why with all that experience you have to ask why the car is not performing on here. :oops:

because not everyone knows everything them that say they do are just tits.weve used up all the things we would normally try so thought I would ask on here as it is after all a landrover group where people get help/advise/support is it not?and maybe someone may come up with something we haven't tried yet .
its pointing towards a faulty pump before we go removeing it thought I would ask the forum for advice

No not everything but a lot more than most on these subjects. Have a look at what i have already suggested. If it's timed correctly the problem has to be in the boost tower or the pump has an internal fail. http://www.dieselbookmarks.com/bombers/VEPump.pdf
its all pointing towards the pump which will go back to who I got it from if it is..
pretty confident its timed correctly,we removed and cleaned fuel lines incase it was that..will check diaphragm didn't venture in there as I was told it was a standard pump and didn't really wanna tweak it as was thinking of a boost pin.
 
When I replaced the 19J with the 300Tdi engine, I'd also done the timing, new belt, pulleys .. everything absolutely spot on! Same issue, I know it's a different engine, but hear me out. Then TC had a look and between us we reasoned that it _had_ to be a timing problem and indeed it was, but not the pump timing. I'd somehow locked the crank 180 degrees out, so the cam pulley was way out but still able to run, albeit horribly, smokily and noisily with little to no power!

So, we turned the crank about 1/4 turn, loosened the belt and turned the cam pulley 1/2 a turn (or the other way round) ... worked like a charm!!

Actually, I can't recall the exact turns we rotated the crank and cam, but one was twice the other .. the crank needs rotating first so the camshaft is free to rotate.
