Hi fokes

I've just stripped my 200 tdi engine for a rebuild and I'm trying to see if the pistons are past there best. Looking over them I removed the rings from 1 piston and the bottom 2 rings look fine , but the top 1 looks tapered is that right or should they be a rectangle section.

And clean should the bores be I've given them a hone and I can still see marks in the bores I can not feel any thing but I can see stains. Is it a reborn job ?

Cheers fokes.

Pics will help
Homing should leave cross hatching in the bores, if you have vertical marks its probably rebore time.

any pics? if rings worn contact face will show signs of abrasion , and you feel for ridges on ring groove, with heavy wear ring wears the groove

Ideally you should buy the pistons before you get the rebore, that way the cylinders can be individually matched to each piston by the engineering company.
