After recovering an old BMW & caravan that were stuck on a hill (no pictures so I've told her it didn't really happen!) my wife phoned me to tell me that the gearbox had packed up.

I was 120 miles away on my way to a footie match & told her to ring our mechanic. He, as it turns out, is away on his hols. She eventually got recovered by the local boat club tractor. The Landy is now at home at the foot of a 1 in 4 hill.
Investigations this morning showed that one of the two lugs on the lower gear lever has sheared. The picture shows what I have left. There is some of the lug missing somewhere, should I be concerned about this? Is the repair as simple as replacing the lower gear lever? Where does the spring shown in the picture go?

Hope this makes sense. As a footnote my mechanical career is full of things that have come apart & not gone back together.
