Now here's one you wont find in a search;)

We have just put a 200tdi into a 90td. The 200 loom was still all attatched to the engine with alternator , starter etc all wired up as it left the Disco. The Disco battery lead has been used and goes nicely on to the 90 battery under the passenger seat.
What we are left with now is a bunch of wires coming from the 200 engine in a nicely wrapped loom and all the loose wires that connected to the 90 td engine. Hope that all makes sense.

Am I right in thinking that we can solve all the connection problems at the starter. I mean by leaving it as is on the engine and just making sure that two brown thick wires go from the starter to the 90 fuse box and then splicing the temp sender, oil thingy and ..........what else ??
Any body know if colours are the same and any one done it like this. Searches come up with many variations but cant find anyone who has just ripped the 200 out of a disco and dropped it in a 90, wiring and all.
 
last one i did i pulled both the looms apart and made one out of the two. it looked like a factory job all the joints were soldered and heat shrinked then wrapped in the plastic stuff the disco has on it.
you can do it the way you suggest too as long as you have the right thickness wires going to the fuse box and alternator. colours i'm not sure ago it was a long time ago but theyre easy enough to trace.

That's what I want to do but struggling to find a disco engine loom wiring diagram.
 
do you need a diagram? there is only a few wires to connect up. just look what colour they are at the engine end, find them again at the cut end and join them to the 90 loom.

Ok, just wondering what the extra little white/slate wire was or is it just white. Rev counter maybe?
Want to get it right as it isn't my motor, just helping him with the wiring and fuel conections. Dont want any fires eh:eek:
Seems to be a lack of precise information regarding wiring and also fitting 200 along with disco boxes. Was suprisingly easy and everything fits with no expensive bits to buy, somethin's gotta go wrong..:D
another thing that makes me nervous is that I didn't disconnect the old loom so I'm unfamiliar with whats what and goin in blind so to speak, that's why I'm trying to get it sorted on paper for next weekend
 
ah see your point now. yes white and grey from alty is tacho. A haynes manual would do just for identification purposes i would have thought.
 
best way is to rip everything off the engine and use the existing TD loom, extending where required

No, wont do it:) I'm going to do it the hard way, I've salvaged a multiplug and socket from the Disco bulkhead and I'm going to have a plug in engine loom, not sure what colour plug would suit though.:D
