After my previous thread on changing engine from 2.25D to a 2.5D na, I am now considering a 200 Di, I would really like to hear from people that have had a 2.5D na and have converted to a 200 tdi but removed the turbo and intercooler and kept oil bath filter to give a period look.
I am really looking at the real feel performance, torque, drivability and noise levels between the 2.5D na and the 200 Di. Though an older engine is the 2.5D na that was designed not to run a turbo, perform better then a 200tdi with the turbo removed. 🤷🏼‍♂️
 
No experience of this but i would expect an engine designed and tuned to have a turbo would be an awful drive without one

Yes I have and I don’t think this question has been answered, so thought I would do a new thread rather then it just being lost in the old one.
 
As above, if you fit a turbocharged engine but remove the turbo it's going to be very flat. The compression ratio on a turbocharged engine is usually lower.

lt will drive, but everyone in the queue of cars behind will hate you, particularly on hills.

That's one of the best things about driving a series.
The endless procession of jumped up ****s, who think that they are absolutely entitled to drive as fast as they like, with nothing ever obstructing them.
I'd love to be a tractor driver
 
You like driving slowly and being an obstruction to others going about their business?
I hate tailgaters
A good driver will hang back and then seize the opportunity to overtake when it arises.
I don't mind drivers like that, I'll try to make it easier for them.
But the tailgater will drive as close as humanly possible to the rear of your vehicle, trying to intimidate you into speeding up.
When a genuine chance to overtake comes, they will miss it because they're concentrating on being petty minded.
 
My dad converted a S2 from petrol to 200di, performance was a little better and slightly noisier. But very good on fuel and more torque. 1st gear is almost not needed and most of the time just using 3rd and 4th
 
It's not a bad option, I drove mine for a few years. I started towing a lot heavier stuff so put the turbo back on. The turbo makes towing at sixty easier.

Di conversion is the most pointless swap ever IMO. It is just a lazy mans conversion as it requires almost no effort to keep the Turbo.

Direct Injection is less refined than indirect.

A 2.5NAD should make 67hp.

We also know a turbocharged NAD aka 19j makes 89bhp. Meaning as a minimum a non intercooled turbo setup adds 22bhp.

200Tdi is 107 or 111bhp depending in Defender or Disco. But I'd argue to say it was always designed and optimised for turbo charging, so I'ld massively hope it the turbo adds a higher figure than the 19j setup.

Wither way 111 - 22 = 89hp or 85hp if using a Defender engine. However, as stated above the Tdi should have a better more efficient turbo setup. So I'd guess a Di is more likely nearer to 75hp.

The real question here is what is your usage? The Tdi is a frugal lump if you want mpg and do lots of miles a year. But they are very loud and unrefined in a Series.

If you don't do many miles a year I'd be looking at more like a Rover V8 engine swap. Much nicer overall.

l used to have a 1932 Standard Little Nine (like an Austin 7 but a bit larger)
With 23bhp is was never going to excel on hills. The queue behind was constant. On the flat it would do 45mph but on some hills it was first gear and 10mph
