Hi guys,

Two problems

First Id like to fit a lift kit to my Disco for two reasons, one to fit bigger tyres and two because the springs which I believe to be the originals are sagging and leaning to the drivers side. I want to freshen up the ride but for as cheap as possible. I have been looking at this lift kit

Terrafirma 2 Inch Lift Kit - Heavy Duty Disco 1 Defender 90 Classic Range Rover

Now what I can see is the springs are +2" but the shocks are standard length? Does this only affect the articulation but does the same job lifting the vehicle?

What other suggestions are there preferably under £200 if possible.

Also the load weight, I have box section sills and steering guard and usually carry a load of junk. Would a heavy spring be a good choice or just the medium?

Secondly my gearbox,

I changed the oil recently to MTF94 as recommended. As the weather has got colder the gearbox has seemed a lot crunchier. Travelling up from 1st to 2nd is fine. Up to 3rd theres a slight crunch. The worst crunch is travelling from 3rd down to 2nd it feels like im fighting metal to pull it into 2nd. Is there anything I can do?

Thanks guys.

Hi,
To answer your first question, yes by fitting longer, or heavy duty springs will just lift your Disco, the length of the shocks does not matter as long as they are not bottoming or topping out. You dont want to load them in either extream.
As for the spring choice, it depends on the load you carry. Do you find that "she" wallows when loaded up?

The gearbox issue, first off it sounds like the synchromesh has warn, but there are a lot of different posibilites, like where is the clutch bite point? Is there any slack in the linkage ? If you put the transfer box in neutral does it still do it ?

It only crunches when driving, just seems stiff. The clutch bite point is fine throughout all the gears. Im not very mechanical minded and know nothing about gearboxes =\

I haven't noticed any wallowing. What spring rate would most people go for?
