Hi all. I would be really grateful if anyone could offer any advise for the following-
Yesterday, I had a call from the wife saying that the engine in the car started to make a knocking noise, so she turned it off immediately. I arrived with the trailer and winched it up and took it home. I decided I needed to hear it, so tentively turned it over. It sounded like it turned a couple of turns and then got compressed to early and kicked back. My thoughts turned to the cam belt after hearing this- thinking it may have jumped a tooth and now running advanced. I have just stripped all the front off and checked the timing marks and they all line up and nothing else appears un-toward. I then considered the fuel pump belt until I read this-
'Incidentally, this drive belt for the 2.7-litre engine is not timed to the pump or engine, so it’s a simple matter of taking the old one off and fitting the new one with its new tensioner. That’s not the case for the later 3.0-litre TDV6, in which the pump needs to be accurately timed to the engine, making it a more involved job.'
So now I'm out of ideas. It didn't sound to me like bottom end noise.
The engine turns over nicely by hand with plenty of compression. Although I haven't yet done compression test.
The car is a Range Rover sport 2006 with 97000 on the clock.
Any help would be extremely appreciated!!!!!
