Hi
Having a bit of trouble with my oil filler cap thingy.
Since I changed my supposedly faulty thermostat my engine has been getting hot, top of the white bit on the gauge and smoke comes from the bonnet, when I check under the bonnet the oil cap has come off and oil is spitting over the engine, what's happening man???

Check the system isn't airlocked. But the only thing that can blow a oil filler cap off, is excess oil pressure either as a result of a blown Head gasket venting thru an oil way, or worn rings allowing pressure to pass thru into the sump. My td90 had crankcase pressurisation for the whole 2years I owned it.. Never emulsified the cap and never lost any water Just needed the oil topping up by about 1/2 ltr every 500miles

still thermostat not opening maywell be cause of running hot, does depend on what other symptoms there are tds do suffer bore wear and breath heavy may just be blocked breather hole in cap from running hot,or worse
