Hi!
I am planning on either rebuilding my 2.5 NA or swapping it in for a 200TDI for my Defender 110, 1990. I have a LT77 gearbox.

Is it a easy swap, or a major swap. Do I require any other components to be changed, like the PAS pump, etc? Am a novice and would appreciate a detailed info on this, Am based in India so there is not much technical help available or guys who can do this like in the UK.

Thanks

It's a straight swap if you use the defender 200tdi, If using the disco engine you will need to either buy or (more likely) fabricate an exhaust downpipe, as the Turbo is lower down on the disco. Apart from that it is a straight swap. You might want to renew the clutch and cambelt at the same time. As it would be silly not to do so while the engine was out and easy to work on.

Oh and the air intake is a bit of a pain with a disco one, coz the turbo is lower, the alternator is higher, and gets in the way of the airbox and piping which takes a bit of working round.
