My '97 2.5d P38 RR has been becoming more sluggish for the last few months and now its getting too much to bare.

Already I have replaced the intercooler pipes with new silicone ones, the intercooler seems to pumping out plenty of cool air and the turbo fan spins as one would expect. Theres no funny coloured smoke coming out of the back end and its not loosing any oil or water. Brakes don't seem to be binding.

What else could be slowing it down?
 
Anything that controls fuel injection would be my inkling but I'm just a chancer....

Injectors
Pump
temperature sender
maf
map
air filter
timing chain
(in no particular order)

Is the turbo variable geometry? If so whatever controls the pitch.
Other stuff....zorst/cat.

MAF is for EGR it has no effect on running of engine. Look at MAP sensor pipe from below manifold check for splits a make sure it is clear.

Maf on petrol's governs fuel quantity (I think) but it seems DERV use the info for other purposes.

I'm a layman, but has Maf got to do with Egr?
 
BINGO! Just found the map sensor pipe flapping about in the breeze.

Trouble is, I cant see where it is supposed to be attached. Its still connected at the MAP sensor end but where should it go to?

Have a feel/ look under the manifold towards the front of the engine for a nipple.

On petrol engines the MAF sensor airflow is used for fuelling calcs. On a diesel it is not, it tells the ECU how much exhaust gas is being ingested to regulate combustible air content and reduce Nox production. Plus of course the fact, that this car does not have one.

I put mine back on at the weekend stepped back and then thought: that would have been a good time to do the glowplugs. Doh!

With a couple of long screwdrivers an extendable magnet a 1/4 drive sockets and uj and adapter to 3/8 ratchet all can be done with the inlet on.

No 2 is a bit of a fiddle past the injection pump but can be done.
 
BLOODY 'EL!!!! This one is like Range Rover GTi or summink! Just repairing that one little pipe and the car now goes like an F'in freight train. Its never been this good in the 6 years ive had it.
