Haynes do one.
I have a Haynes manual for my series 3 but it tries to cover all the variants and, quite honestly, is a waste of time....almost everything yo do with engines is real old generic stuff but doesn't tell me what I wanted to know. I suppose a 110 is very close to a 109 but its mainly the engine stuff I'm needing - specific info on timing more than anything.

The early 90 and 110 had your 2.5na engine so get the manual above and you'll have all the engine info you need. The 2.25 was only fitted to the series range of landrovers over here.

The series did not have the 2.5na, the first ninety (not 90) and one-ten (not 110] had an 2.5na.
That is one of the the best engine there is for a series and also I enjoyed it in my RHD Ninety!

Look here for manuals

Cheers Rob
Hi Rob,
I'm now confused...mine is a santana 109 LHD 1984 series 3... built here in spain...I still don't know how to definitively tell which engine I have....I don't really care which I just want to know how to identify it then I can get the correct manual and get the timing right and get it running
Cheers

Okay, I am not into Santana but I do like them.
Also some of them are called a Series 4.
The 2.5na are used in the first defenders.
In the link above, look for the
Defender 90 & 110 workshop… part 1-5

But there are a lot of youtube tutorials

Is there someth8ng specific you are looking for?
Hi,

I have been trying to get this engine to run after the timing belt broke.

As part of the vehicle restoration I refurbished a lot if the top side , new valves, pushrod, headgasket, etc. Though none of these items were damaged.

I have been trying to correctly set the engine timing but so far I have not had a definitive answer on what marks should line up where. (I have 3 arrows on the front face and 3 pulleys - the pump pulley has a single punch mark, the camshaft pulley has a single punch mark and 2 lines scored, the crank collet when lined up with the arrow is TDC when compared to the mark on the flywheel (also confirmed when the head was off).
I have been if the assumption that the engine is a 2.25 diesel but during people's replies some are now saying that it is a 2.5na engine! However the same problem is still there....how do I time the engine so it will run?
Getting good spray from injectors, all gloplugs working fine, new battery.

Thanks
Steve
