Good morning!

I left my DSE for two weeks but she started fine this morning, so I took her for a spin and wash.
After coming home I popped the bonnet to have a general look and noticed that there was some smoke coming from the connection between the valve cover and the oil breather (the connection to the valve cover has been broken and fixed in place with some kind of black glue). I'm sure this didn't use to happen before so I removed the oil filler cap and was greeted with all this oil smoke/mist. Is this normal or am I seeing some compression going through the piston rings?

Yeah rings maybe slightly tired. Clean out the oil separator/vent valve or fit a new one.

Oil level is OK, near maximum capacity.
I think I'm going to remove the valve cover to see if I can fix the broken plastic part and clean the metallic mesh before the breather and I'll clean the mushroom looking breather valve while I'm there.

Cheers!

Giving the intercooler a washout maybe beneficial also.

+ one as above, and check to see if you still have the o-ring intact on the plastic bit that pushes into the cam cover hole ?, and fill a small bowl with para or kero and soak the breather filter and oil separator in it too, then blow out with air line if poss or the old ladys hair dryer,
